Meet your teacher!
My name is Macee Eklund, and I am a private classical violin teacher in Palmer, AK. I have been playing violin for fifteen years and have been teaching classical violin for ten.
You could say that my violin is my third arm. My journey started with private lessons at the age of seven, and by age seventeen I had completed the entire Suzuki Violin Method series in addition to building a substantial independent repertoire. I have performed as a first-violinist in the Matanuska-Susitna Orchestra, dabbled in fiddling, played in several weddings, and have served over a thousand hours playing on my church worship team. I am also a trained pianist and vocalist.
I taught my very first violin lesson when I was twelve years old, and am still teaching my “veteran” student to this day! I took a break from teaching to attend college, where I graduated with my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing RN degree. I also hold my Elementary Violin Teacher’s Certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music. I have taught ages seven to seventy, accompanied my students in recitals, and have developed endearing friendships many of my pupils.
Great teachers come from great teachers. My years of state-of-the-art private training under Joy Davidson and Natalie Gain (https://gainmusicacademy.com/) equipped me with eyes and ears for the tiny details that will either hold you back or set you apart as a professional musician. My passion for one-one-one, private, individualized instruction is fueled by my firm belief that ANYONE can master this feisty instrument.
I’m not going to lie to you…violin is hard! If learning violin is something you are hoping to just pick up over the summer, my studio may not be the right fit for you. Learning the violin takes years. Mastering the violin takes decades. My teaching style is designed to foster a long-term partnership with you AND your instrument, with the mutual goal of mastery; but never perfection. We are all human, and to make mistakes is to be human.
My students are my pride and joy, and I am their biggest fan. I never tire of celebrating those first notes, those hard-earned check-offs, and every performance.
